Released in the UK on this day in 1967, Axis: Bold As Love is the second studio album from The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was recorded to fulfill the Experience's contract with Track Records, which stated that they had to produce two records in 1967. The American label, Reprise Records chose not to release it in the United States until 1968, because of fears that it might interfere with the sales of the first album. Featuring songs like "Castles Made of Sand," "If Six Was Nine," and "Little Wing," the album peaked at number five and spent 16 weeks on the UK Album Chart. It has since been regarded as a psychedelic masterpiece and one of the greatest guitar albums of all time.
