It was 54 years ago today when the Texas International Pop Festival was held. August 30 - September 1, 1969 (just 2 weeks after Woodstock) at the newly-opened Dallas International Motor Speedway, located on the east side of Interstate Highway 35E, across from the Round Grove Road intersection in Lewisville. The brainchild of Angus G. Wynne III, son of Angus G. Wynne, the founder of the Six Flags Over Texas, the festival brought such heavy hitter as Led Zeppelin, B.B. King, Canned Heat, Chicago (then called Chicago Transit Authority), Grand Funk Railroad, Janis Joplin, Johnny Winter, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, and many more.
